Luis Suarez signs for Inter Miami to reunite with Lionel Messi and Barcelona buddies

Inter Miami have confirmed the signing of Luis Suarez who will reunite with Lionel Messi in Florida.

The MLS team simply confirmed the signing in a social media post with the caption (translated from Spanish): “Welcome Luis Suarez, to the dream of Miami.” The post also contained a picture of four young boys wearing the iconic pink Inter Miami shirt with the names Sergio, Jordi Alba, Messi and Suarez on the back.

Of course, it means Suarez will reunite with three former Barcelona teammates in the form of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Messi – who all joined this summer. The Uruguayan striker formed a deadly partnership with the Argentinian during his time at the Nou Camp.

Together, they won four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey cups, a Champions League in 2015 and a FIFA Club World Cup the same year. Suarez also scored an astonishing 198 goals in 283 games as he, Messi and Neymar terrified defences across Europe.

Now, David Beckham will be hoping, despite Suarez turning 37 before the start of the next MLS season, he will be able to recreate some of that magic alongside Messi. The World Cup winner made an instant impact after his own spectacular arrival. Arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, Messi scored 11 goals in his first 14 appearances as he led Miami to Leagues Cup triumph – the franchise’s first ever piece of silverware.

Beckham said of Suarez’s signing: “We are delighted to have a player of Luis’ quality and passion for the game join our Club. He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation and we look forward to seeing him take to the field with both former teammates and young players from our Academy.”

“I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great Club a reality. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve together with our shared ambition,” said Suárez. “I will give my all to bring joy to these great fans I’ve heard so much about while I wear Inter Miami colors, and look forward to reuniting with great friends and players. I’m also eager to meet my new teammates and coaches.”

Managing owner Jorge Mas added: “We are happy to welcome world class striker Luis Suarez to our club. Luis is a fierce competitor whose winning drive embodies what we want out of our players. We promised our fans we would pursue the world’s best players to build a squad that can compete at the highest echelons in the Americas. Coming off an award-winning season in Brazil, Luis will be a key addition to our roster. We will continue to be ambitious and always strive to pursue the Freedom to Dream”
